My New Role at Dog Shows

Judging

On the 21st of August, 2011, I debuted as a judge at The Nagano Prefecture Club Dog Show, after 18 years of experience in the dog-show world of Italian Greyhounds as a breeder. With excitement and nervousness, I judged a total of 42 dogs starting with some Afghan Hounds. All of my dogs belonged to one of five breeds of Sight Hound. The twelve Italian Greyhounds, my dearest breed, were among those 42 dogs. Every one of them was well trained and beautiful. There was only one professional among the handlers. All the other handlers were owners. One of them was a very young boy in a suit and tie with his Italian Greyhound. As I watched the boy harmonize his and his dog’s walk in the ring, my heart filled with warmth and kindness. This is the way a dog show should be, I thought. The ground condition was very poor for the dogs as it rained on and off during the show. I am proud of all 42 dogs for their performances and applaud each one of them.
